Who we are - Queensland Urban Utilities

Who we are

Queensland Urban Utilities is a statutory body, created on 1 July 2010 as a result of Queensland Government changes to the way water is managed in South East Queensland.

We are owned by the Brisbane and Ipswich City Councils, and Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset Regional Councils. Governed by an independent Board, our primary role is to deliver drinking water, recycled water and sewerage services to the cities and townships within the boundaries of these five local government areas.

We are one of the largest water distributor-retailers in Australia.

Each year we:

  • Supply around 125,000 mega litres of tap water to 1.3 million residents
  • Supply around 35,000 mega litres of recycled water to businesses by pipeline and road tanker
  • Remove and treat the sewage and waste generated by 1.3 million residential and 5,000 trade waste customers
