Pressure and Leakage management

This program is part of a number of obligations that must be met under Queensland Government legislated water regulations to ensure the region’s water supply for the future. The two part program will result in:

  • water pressure reduced in suburbs with high water pressure
  • inspections of Queensland Urban Utilities mains for leaks by leak detection officers.

21 metres head of pressure diagramMaking the most of the natural topography, drinking water is primarily supplied using a gravity system. Properties at low to medium elevation receive more than the standard water pressure.

Even with reduced water pressure:

  • it will remain above Queensland Urban Utilities standard of 21 metres head of water pressure
  • water quality will not be affected
  • most homes and businesses will not notice any difference to their day-to-day water use.

Queensland Urban Utilities is working with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service to ensure sufficient water pressure is always available for fire fighting services.

Residents will be notified by mail prior to scheduled pressure reduction.

Residents

Most residents will not notice any difference to their water pressure when using day to day appliances or be required to install booster pumps in their home.

If a leak is detected within your property boundary, you will be notified by Queensland Urban Utilities, but it is the property owner’s responsibility to fix leaks on private premises.

Home dialysis patients

Queensland Urban Utilities is working closely with the Home Dialysis Register to ensure adequate water pressure will always be available to all home dialysis patients.

Queensland Urban Utilities provides water and wastewater services to customers in the
Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Somerset regions.
